Lesson Learned: Work/life balance brings inspiration to business

    January 19, 2012

I admit it: work/life balance has been really hard for me. I love to work, and even when I get together with friends (many of whom happen to be entrepreneurs), we talk shop. One of my favorite things to do is to get together with a friend for brunch and problem-solve business challenges.

So you can see, when you are turned on by your profession, it's hard to turn off.

My lesson learned this week: It's important to bring new and fresh energy into your life on a daily basis. Inspiration comes from unexpected places and when you do the same things over and over again, your energy stagnates. Bring in new energy, and it will not only bring you work/life balance, it will also inspire new ideas for your business.

What new and fresh energy will you pull into your life in order to achieve work/life balance? How will you stay inspired?

To inspire YOU, I've put together a collage of the fun I implemented this week... and I also reveal how the inspiration brought new energy into my business! :)

This week, my daughter and I went to a French cooking class on the Upper East Side:

Baked cookies (hey, don't judge me... Barefoot Contessa has great cookie mixes!):

Surprised my husband by learning how to cook an Organic Chicken Tagine:

Discovered new wine and delicious cheese:

All of this inspired me to work on my Vision Book and come up with new ideas and content:

    I remembered my anchoring philosophy:

If, as a leader, I don't create the space to be inspired (reading books, learning from others, laughing with my daughter, cooking, being bored), I cannot lead with inspired thought, wisdom, authenticity, imagination. Impacting the world with my stamp of greatness requires space to be inspired." - AJK

This inspiration brought fresh new energy to my store window:

Your homework assignment: What new energy will you bring into your life? Comment below to inspire others, too! I suggest documenting how you spend your upcoming week with photos. Not only is it fun, it also reminds you why you started your business in the first place: To live the life you want to lead.
