It seems every other day I talk to a handful of small business owners that are gung-ho to get their new website designed and online fast. Don’t get me wrong! This is wonderful but sometimes I wonder if the client really knows the core reasons why she should have a website in the first place.
I thought it might be a good idea to do a brief overview of the top 3 core reasons why any small business owner should have a website.
Core Reason #1
Your website is your 24/7 sales tool.
There’s nothing more heartwarming than knowing your website is working for you even when you’re relaxing at the beach! Your website can be your best, most supportive friend if you let it. It will shout your message to the world; tell us all how fabulous your new products are; educate us about your cause and teach us all about your company - all day, every day. The average entrepreneur couldn’t possibly afford to pay an employee to do the same. This is why you need a website.
Core Reason #2
There’s nothing like a website to build credibility.
About 247 million internet users* are trying to find you online - and that’s just in North America! Don’t disappoint them by not providing the full story behind your brand. Sure your contact information is helpful but when potential customers and clients go to the trouble to research a brand, they want to know more. For instance, they want to know who else has purchased from you and what they thought (testimonials), they want to know where you get your materials (about the product), what your mission is (about us), what media outlets you have been featured in (press). All this information reinforces your brand credibility. This is essential for you to close the sale.
Core Reason #3
It’s the fastest way to create a network of supporters.
With over 2 billion visitors a month** to the top three social networking sites (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter), you can’t afford not to get involved. You can set up your page on any of these social networking (SN) sites and start interacting with the community to create an audience for yourself and your product. You then link your SN page to your regular website to funnel traffic to your site. If you keep your SN content fresh and new, these people will become your supporters. Now when you launch a new product or service, you have an audience already in place waiting to hear what you have to say and, perhaps, to buy what you’re selling.
Knowing why you want a website is as important as knowing that you want “lots of blue” or a “super modern” site design. Keep these 3 core reasons in mind and take full advantage of the fantastic new web presence you’re about to create.
