Do you have that sense of impending doom? Maybe you should...

    January 12, 2009
  • I don't have much time today, so this is going to be brief.  Important, but brief.

I just finished writing a legal blog on the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (“CPSIA”) and I wanted to swoop in and make sure that all of the wonderful women here at STS were aware of the impending doom...

I hate to say, I'm only half kidding about the impending doom thing.

As of February 10, 2009, anyone who manufactures any products aimed at kids 12 years old and under must comply with the CPSIA

That means you.  Whether you make stationery, dolls, children's clothing, kids furniture, posters, books, CDs, game systems or whatever, if you're manufacturing or selling products that are meant to be used by kids, you're subject to the law.

There are lead testing requirements and phthalates (the stuff that makes plastic bendy) requirements and labeling requirements.  Are you in compliance?  Do you even know what I'm talking about?  If not, you've got some serious homework to do....

Failure to comply with the law carries civil and even criminal penalties.

There are several discussions here on STS about it, but I wanted to make sure that the larger STS audience was aware and let you know that if you have questions, I'm happy to talk to you about it.  Just drop me a line...

    Till next time....
