I've been steamrolled by my life...

    January 21, 2009
  • Does it ever seem to you that everything hits you all at once.  I've been dancing so fast to keep up that I knew that I'd hit a wall eventually...

It happened two weeks ago.  I finally convinced myself that I had to go to the doctor and found out that I've apparently been nursing a sinus infection and a nasty case of bronchitis for 4 weeks or so.

And when does this happen?  Just days before I have an audition for The Music Man, of course!  Thankfully, the director knows me and will forgive my sounding quite like Bea Arthur...

You might ask yourself, "How does she have time to do a musical?"

    The answer is, "I don't."

    (Shhhhh, don't tell me....)

But it's what I love to do and I only indulge myself once a year, so I'll give up on a couple of my 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night (and I always wonder why I'm so tired) so I can perform on stage.

Oh, and in case you haven't seen my PR post, I'm looking for donations for the gift bags for our donor reception after the Saturday performance (please help out if you can).  You can see the posting here for more information. (If you can't see it, which you can't if you're not an STS member, you can email me for information.)

    But I digress....

I made it through the auditions and the costume meeting (Oh, did I mention that I'm working on the costumes, hair and makeup for the show too?  I'm out of my mind.) and thought I'd done pretty well.

    Until this Saturday morning.

My 21 month old, Liam, woke up with a 103 degree fever, which soon progressed to 105 and stayed there until Monday.  I took him in for a sick visit Monday afternoon and they sent him home saying it was a virus.

When we got home, I thought he felt hot.  (Duh, he's been running 105 degrees.)  So I took his temperature.

    He was at 107.

After I called the doctor's office back (which was closed by that point, of course) and insisted that someone needed to call me back to tell me at what temperature I should take him to a hospital (which if you're a mom, you know they won't tell you), I gave him a dose of Tylenol and put him in a warm bath to cool him down some.

I managed to get the fever down around 103 (and got him to sleep)by the time the doctor on call rang me back.  She told me that if he got back up to 107 that I should take him to the hospital.

Long story short, when we went to take his temperature a couple hours later (because I'm not waking a sick baby), his fever broke.  But that was not a pleasant couple of hours for me.

But, I have two kids.  And they share a room.  What were the odds?

The next day, Noah (my 4 year old) had an interview at a school for pre-K (Yes, I know it's crazy, but it's the way NYC works).  He misbehaved during the "interview" (which is just a play group with a bunch of kids) and I wasn't surprised to find when I got home that he wasn't feeling well...

Ah, well.  The beat goes on...

Anyone who's been following me knows that I'm trying to sell our apartment in midtown Manhattan.  I managed to get a call for a showing while we were at the doctor's office on Monday (I made DH go to the showing) and I had a showing right after the "interview" on Tuesday.  So, I had to rush from the Upper West Side to the Financial District, leave Noah with my MIL and run back up to Midtown East.

Anyone want to take bets on when I'm going to catch this lovely virus that's wandering around my house?  I'm giving odds on Saturday (because if I can't ruin my weekend, what would be the point?).

Ok, I'm done whining now.  And I promise to write something helpful tomorrow (when I'll be doing a whole post on why it pays to stick up for yourself).  I just needed to vent and I know that this is a group of women that would understand what I'm going through...

What's the quote?  If I remember it correctly (and I don't know who the author of the quote is...  "Man plans... G-d laughs."
