I seem to be saying this a lot, but I'm sorry that I've been shirking this week.
I had all of these fabulous intentions of getting things done by the end of the year. Then we went away over Christmas to a friend's house and the sniffles that had already taken hold of my family turned into an absolutely lovely stomach virus that seems to be affecting most of the Northeast.
I'm pretty sure the Christmas song doesn't go "two vomiting kiddos and a sick mommy before New Year's Eve..." Yuck!
But we're all better now. I've started to realize that I'm just not going to get everything I had hoped to get finished by tomorrow.
I have four contracts to draft, a non-profit company to organize and an ebook to write. I also need to update the news links on my webpage, add a testimonials page (oh yes, for any of you who are my clients and would like to email me a testimonial to use on my page, I'd appreciate it) and add an entry to my legal blog...
Which leads to my New Year's resolution for the year...
Every year I have resolutions about being a better mom, a better wife, a better housekeeper and about 30 lbs thinner. I've decided that they never seem to work out and then I feel guilty.
This year I've decided to stop beating myself up. That's my resolution. This year I'm going to be nicer to me.
Seems a little selfish, I must admit (and I'm still going to try to lose weight) but I feel like we all spend too much time beating ourselves up for not living up to the images of perfection that we've invented in our own heads.
Someday I'd like to have a daughter and I want to teach her how not to spend her life beating herself up. I figure I'd better learn how to do that myself first....
I could certainly use some company in keeping this resolution. And I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm not the only one of us who could benefit from working on this.
Anyone who wants to join me in making a commitment to stop beating ourselves for not living up to impossible ideals, let me know.
I'm also thinking of ways that we can reward ourselves for sticking to it. I'm open to suggestions....
