    Effortless Multitasking…with Grace

    November 23, 2011

Greetings from sunny Florida! I’ve hopped across the pond for a couple weeks to visit friends and family and to celebrate Thanksgiving.  Yes, right on the heels of committing to this weekly blog and when I am about to launch a social media campaign. And co-authoring our annual holiday letter. The list goes on…

Am I crazy? My friend Cindy (whom I visited last weekend on the first leg of this trip) looked me straight in the eye and asked me what I was thinking…starting this new blog when I was traveling for two weeks and have so much else on my plate. My response was, “Why not”?

Is there ever a “good” time for something? OR, is any time a good time; the perfect time? It’s the perfect time when you actually DO it. It’s all in what you believe, isn’t it? If you believe that it is the perfect time, then it will be. Who wants to be limited by beliefs? Not me!

So, when Cindy brought that up, it started me thinking and I realized that it is all about leveraging our time, delegating and being organized. Not always in that order!

     1.  Leverage your time:  Leveraging works best when you are organized, (of which I am a huge fan!)-it allows me to fit so much more into my life! For example, I am writing this blog while getting my hair done (taking time for myself from last week’s blog!). This afternoon, I’ve planned a spa pedicure with one of my sisters, so we can spend some quality time together. One of my favorite time-savers is sending a note to myself on my iPhone. Since I have it with me all the time, I can easily write a quick message and hit “send”. Sometimes I use the “microphone” app so I can record thoughts-especially when I am running. Some of my best thinking comes when I am jogging-it’s very meditative for me so lots of juicy creativity takes place in the vineyards around Esslingen!

    2.   Delegate to someone you trust: My new assistant, Chelsea, has been a friend and business partner for over ten years. I trust her judgment. She’s got my back. Big sigh of relief when you know someone has your best interest at heart and is supremely skilled as well! She’s helping me update and manage my social media. Delegating leaves much more time for YOU! What tasks do you have on your plate that could easily be delegated to someone else? Set some healthy boundaries and let go of needing to do it all yourself.

    3.   Ask for help:  I’m working at being better at this and am really enjoying the results! I’ve been developing a sneak peak video of my Ten Keys for Living Outside of the Box and just couldn’t get it done before I flew out of Germany. Looking at my schedule, I realized the optimal time to do it was over the weekend-while I was visiting Cindy and her family. So, why not ask for help? You never know until you ask, right? And, with me anticipating the best outcome, they accepted the challenge and we not only had lots of fun filming, but they offered great suggestions as well. Chelsea is putting the finishing touches on everything, so you should see it soon-perhaps by the time this blog posts!
    This week’s challenge:

Do you need more organization and delegation in your life? What can you do to kick things up a notch in the efficiency and effectiveness department? Here are some ideas to get you started:

-Get a new organizer. It’s time to buy your 2012 dayplanner-pick one up before all the good ones fly off the shelves!  And get started transferring all the important data (or adding it for the first time!) such as birthdays and other special events.

-Make a list of the tasks that need to be accomplished before the end of the year and then decide when you will slot each one in and to whom you can delegate some of them. Are there some with which you could use some help? Enlist friends, family and/or your Savor Sisters.

-Procrastination your middle name? What one thing can you do NOW to get it off your plate? Sometimes the decision to take immediate action will save time and energy in the long run.

Please share your comments below! Did you take on any of the tasks above? Can’t wait to hear all about it!
