5 Ways To Reach Customers On Google+

    September 10, 2013

Social media has become a vital aspect of marketing because it provides companies with the opportunity to reach hundreds of millions of people who could potentially become new customers. Many organizations have added a Google+ page to their marketing efforts as a way to reach new users who may not be active on other sites like Facebook or Twitter. If your company is new to Google+, or you’re thinking about creating a page, check out these five simple ways to reach new customers!

    1. Utilize Hashtags

Hashtags are a relatively new feature on Google+, but a lot of social media users are familiar with them due to their prominence on Twitter. If you’re unfamiliar with hashtags, they are the words and phrases preceded by the ‘#’ symbol, which is used as a way to track and categorize topics that are currently being talked about or “trending.”

These tags are great for those who run company pages on Google+ because you can add brand-relevant tags to your daily posts. Then, people who search that specific tag will see your posts, and they’ll be more inclined to visit your page and follow you. You can also do your own hashtag research to see what users are saying about any topic that is related to your company.

    2. Start A Community

Google+ communities operate like groups, where people join in order to connect with other users who share the same interests. Communities are always created around a specific topic, and many companies will create a community for something that is relevant to their product or service. For example, Instant Checkmate is an online background check company, and they created a community based on the general topic of background checks. In the community they’re able to see what current and potential customers are talking about, and they can also join in on the discussion and share important information.

    3. Join Other Communities

Individuals aren’t the only ones who have access to Google+ communities. You can join communities as a company, too! This is beneficial from a marketing standpoint because no matter what kind of company you have, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll be able to find several communities full of potential customers. All you have to do is ask yourself, “What topics are my customers interested in?” Then, find and join the communities for those topics. For example, a company that sells pet supplies online has one target demographic—pet owners. So, the company could join any community having to do with animals and pets, and trust us, there are tons of them.

    4. Post Interesting Content

The goal of posting content on Google+ (or any other social media site) is to get that content seen by as many people as possible. The more people that see your post, the more likely it is that they’ll check out your page, follow it, and ultimately become a customer. By posting high-quality content that will interest your followers, you can count on them hitting the “+1” button. They also might share the content with all of their followers, and then one of that person’s followers will share it, which starts that domino effect that all companies want to see.

    5. Run Contests

Social media contests are a great way to increase your company’s visibility and reach new customers. Although Google+ doesn’t allow companies to run contests directly from the site, they do allow contest links and other information to be shared. So you can host the contest on your website or another social media profile and share the contest info on Google+. Depending on what kind of company you have and what type of product or service you offer, you can tailor your contest any way you like. For example, the pet supply store mentioned earlier could run a photo contest where they ask people to submit a photo of their pet, and the most popular photo wins.

The prize could be anything from free toys, to a gift certificate, but it has to be something that’s good enough to make people want to enter the contest. Without a doubt, everyone who enters the contest will be sharing the information with all their friends and followers, which opens the door for tons of potential customers to visit the company’s Google+ page.

Do YOU run a company page on Google+? If so, what’s your favorite way to reach new customers?
