When we have a cut, bruise or scrape we reach right for the first aid kit to get our obligatory band aid and ointment. But what do we reach for when we have a bruised ego? When something cuts right into our heart? When we feel like we've been scraped across the coals?
Wouldn't it be great if we could all have our own First Aid Kit for Happiness?
I decided to take matters into my own hands this weekend and start creating my own personal Happy Kit. Now on those days when I desperately need something to lift my spirits, I can crack open my Happy Kit and find something to cure my case of the blues.
The ‘Kit'
After a closet cleaning (which I desperately needed!) I discovered four empty shoeboxes. Score! I took one shoebox and wrapped it in brightly colored paper leftover from a birthday gift. The ‘Goods'
I started looking around for things to put inside my kit for an instant pick-me-up. Here's what I found:- Photo of my husband with a big flower on top of his head (hysterical!)
- Bag of flavored coffee - I love the smell of coffee more than anything!
- Thank you note from a colleague
- A handcrafted pin made from a former client that says ‘Inspire'
- A note written on a napkin from my husband that says ‘I Love You'
- A wooded fish I got in Barbados where my husband and I got married
- Magazine article from when I won ‘Woman of the Year' for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
- Half-used gift certificate from local spa - to remind me that NOW is the time to cash it in!
As my half-finished Happy Kit still sits on my desk, I can't help but smile thinking about the first time I will use it. Be prepared the next time you have an ‘unhappy emergency' and list below what you can put in your own Happy Kit!To read more of Melissa's tips, visit www.melissaslifelessons.com
