    That's what blogs are for...

    October 14, 2008
  • I received an email from a new reader last night that was so freaking cute I had to share it with all of you. This reader is responding to an entry about my best friend Andrew.  I wrote about a ridiculously obscure inside joke he and I share that I thought no one could possibly understand.  It's a random quote from the movie "Peggy Sue Got Married".  Here is my reader's response.

    Hey Sarah

    U dont know me, but...

I have a pal named Doyle who, like u and Andrew, seem 2 be two halves of the same brain   Over this past weekend on a getaway 2 his and his partner's 2nd home in the North Georgia Mountains a situation or two presented itself, as one often will, when one of us will blurt out, "Hey, Peggy Sue!" -- a line we have been using, strictly btween  each other, since the early 90s when he shared with me one of his favorite movies, "Peggy Sue Got Married"   On the drive back 2 Atlanta, I wondered aloud if there might be another couple of offbeat so-and-so's who share this strange line from that quirky film  He mused that one of us should google it, and 2day I did, happy and surprised 2 find your post from just a coupla mos ago on your website   Im sure that D will be glad 2 know that there exists at least one other duo who have in common with us this zany peculiararity (spelling on that one seems wrong, but I like it)

    Kudos 2 u and Andrew

10 minutes after receiving this email, the reader's friend Doyle commented on this entry with, what else, "Hey, Peggy Sue!"

There is nothing better than someone responding to something you created.  But the beauty of blogs is that the reader can actively respond with an email or a follow-up comment.  It's social networking and connecting at its best.

Responses like these keep me going on this path. You need whatever encouragement you can get when you're struggling over entries about a nightmare trip to your local bagel shop. Someone out there is going to understand exactly what you're talking about.
