Introducing Stephanie, Founder and CEO of WELLalarm.

    October 30, 2008
  • Hello! My name is Stephanie. I am the founder of WELLalarmTM Inc.

I am a 32-year-old native New Yorker. I live off Union Square with my cat, Athena.

Seriously doesn't she adorable? ok...so i am a bit biased.

    WELLalarm's Back-Story
Three years ago I was working as a healthcare executive at Aetna. At 29 I had the job of my dreams and was considered a "rising star" in my chosen field.  I was on top of the world. Then I developed a rare nerve disease. No one at my office really knew about my condition and treatment. It was a stroke of pure luck that I was at my desk on the phone with my hematologist when I had a severe adverse reaction to my treatment. Had that not been the case, I would have collapsed without anyone having a clue as to what was wrong - and I given the acute nature of the situation, I likely would have died.

From that day on something constantly nagged at me... In an emergency, there was really no way to communicate vital medical information.

Like many of the other 150 MILLION Americans with a chronic illness I might have a medical condition, but I do not look sick... and I certainly do not define myself by it...I found the only solution on the market, Medic Alert antiquated and seriously UGLY...and before I knew it WELLalarm was born.

(Little did I know what I was getting myself into!)

WELLalarm is a cutting edge web-based service that offers secure, 24/7 access to your medical information from anywhere in the world. In an emergency, bystanders or first responders can access vital health information including allergies, medications, doctors and emergency contacts in seconds by phone, text or Internet. They simply enter a user's WELL-ID found on WELLalarm's "smart" health ID jewelry, key chains, iron-on clothing labels and stickers for cell phones and driver's licenses.

WELLalarm launched its beta in august and things have been going really well! But now it is time to start getting the word out there. As with many startups, though we are fortunate to have some fabulous investors, we take a DIY approach to many things (especially in this economy)...including PR.  What better way to get the word out there than TV! So we have created a goal of getting WELLalarm on a national TV show for a segment by August...and I can't wait to share the journey with you!

As this post is way tooo long for my taste so I will provide more details next time!  (And I promise all other posts will be INFINATELY shorter!)

    Be WELL,
    Stephanie
