Five Ways You Can Make Your Office Brighter

    April 1, 2017

We all know that awful scenario that happens every winter - arriving into work early in the morning and then not leaving until the sun has gone down. It's horrible and depressing, but unfortunately it is a fact of many people's working life. It needn't be.

The mornings are getting brighter and the evenings longer, so before the dreary dark afternoons return later in the year, why don't you make the necessary changes to your office? Here are five ways you can make your workplace brighter.

    Mirrors

Strategically place mirrors to reflect light into the dark areas of the office. This will ensure that you are making the most of all the natural light that is available to you and your employees.

This is an inexpensive way to improve your office, but make sure you watch out for the vain members of staff who insist on blocking the mirror to check their hair!

    Install skylights

This isn't the cheapest option on the list, but it is one of the most effective. Installing skylights will let whatever natural light that is there flood your workplace and create a brighter and happier office.

This may require an initial investment, but it is money well spent if you value happy employees. It is also a once off cost that won't require any further spending.

    Illuminate

If you are in a basement office, or open at nights, there is nothing you can do to embrace natural light. However this doesn't mean you cannot make your office brighter. Brighter bulbs and more lamps and lighting fixtures will help you create a brighter space. It's not as good as natural light, but it's a fine alternative.

    Colours

Some colours reflect light far better than others and if you are aiming for a bright workplace then we would suggest veering away from dark and dull shades. Whites and pastels give an open feel to an office and reflect light brilliantly.

Colours are also a great way for making staff feel more comfortable and at home. Studies have shown that offices that embrace certain colour schemes are happier and more productive.

    Rearrange desks

It sounds like a simple solution, but you would be surprised how many business owners don't think of doing this. Before you go spending huge money installing the likes of skylights, look to see can you rearrange the furniture in your office to make the most of the natural light already available.

Of course this may require some inconvenience, but it will all be worth it the first day the staff see the sun shining onto their desks. So there you have it, five ways you can brighten up your office!
