A NY Daily News PR Opp!

    March 9, 2009

I know I've been missing for a while so I figured I'd write about something useful now that I'm back. I found a great PR opportunity while reading the Daily News this weekend. We could all use another PR opp, right?

The NY Daily News is looking for rays of hope in the midst of the financial crisis. Did you recently open a business? Did you land a new job? You can send any good news stories to goodnews@nydailynews.com.

    Hope that helps. Happy pitching!

My Deadline Has Come and Gone

    February 17, 2009

As many of you know, my deadline to get 15 blog/PR mentions was February 1st, 2009. Well, I guess I should tell you that I haven't actually gotten that far, YET. I'm at 11 now and still working on the last four.

In the meantime, I've been feverishly studying for the GMAT so I can get accepted to grad school and get my MBA.

I've also been trying to keep up with jewelry orders and increase traffic to my website, EsculonSays. After doing tons of research and reading a great post from Alisa, I realized that in order to gain traffic, increase google pagerank and boost your incoming links you need to spread yourself out all over the internet.

How do you do that? Well, you have to post your expert content, funny stories and important info on websites such as Squidoo, HubPages and other similar sites. The more sites you create, the more incoming links you'll have. The more incoming links, the more people you'll get visiting your blog or website.

This is where spreading yourself thin [...]

Here's a great question to help you determine what should be on your to-do list. If a doctor told you that in order to live, you could only work 2 hours a day, what would you work on? Isn't that a great question?? Most of us work all day, take a break for meals and then work all night. So what would you cut out if you could only work for 2 hours. I guarantee you would cut out a ton of clutter and check your emails only once a day.

If I only had 2 hours to work, here's what would be on my to-do list:

    1. Check and answer important emails (15 min)

    2. Write a new blog post for Esculon & Savor the Success (45 min)

    3. Visit favorite blogs and leave comments (30 min)

    4. Review PR leads and organize list of potentials (30 min)

How great does that sound for one day's worth? Yet, I barely ever get that much done in one day because I get lost in all the clutter.

What would you do if you only had 2 hours to work in a day?

schnell pressFor all of you who are attempting to handle your own PR, I thought I'd let you know that I found a new source for PR opportunities. Schnell Press works just like HARO and being that it's new, there aren't as many opps on there yet. But if you sign up and spread the word about it I'm sure it'll reach HARO levels in no time!

I signed up for it and get updates every two weeks or so. I'm assuming it will increase in frequency when they have more to queries to report. In this tough market, any free PR opp is a gift so make sure you sign up and tell your friends.

    Happy hunting.

    GOAL: Get 15 pr/blog mentions by 2/1/09.

So I know you've all been asking how many PR mentions Esculon has gotten so far. I looked back at all my blog posts here on STS and counted 10. Thought I had more but I guess not. Well, I do have one more that I just recently discovered.

    Count Me In & Esculon

You might remember Count Me In from my first few posts. They partnered up with small businesses and SheFinds to raise money for women entrepreneurs. From my deal, I ended up with a mention from SheFinds and most recently another from Count Me In at MakeMeAMillion.org.

So better make that 11 mentions. Still not quite where I thought I'd be, especially considering my deadline to reach 15 mentions is only a couple of weeks away.

This whole process has me addicted. I'm addicted to PR, marketing, reading blogs, writing posts...you get the idea. I'm so addicted in fact, that I barely get enough sleep these days. I slept through my alarm every single day this week! I'm supposed to leave the house at 7 a.m. to make it to work in time. Wanna know wh [...]

joey in astoriaI've just gotten the best testimonial and PR mention in one...a great way to end a year. Or maybe a great way to start the new one.

Judith is a fellow blogger and Astorian who became a customer totally by accident. She actually mentioned me on her list of "Best of 2008." Needless to say, I'm very flattered and excited at the same time. And being that it's so good, I thought I'd share it with you:

"Esculon Jewelry - I've been hooked on Alexandra Mihaescu's funky jewelry designs. She makes contemporary fashion jewelry at reasonable prices. My most recent purchase, the Golden Dotty Earrings have become a huge hit with all of my friends--so much so that I've purchased 3 more pairs for some of my closest buds. The compliments on these babies just keep pouring in!"

This brings me one step closer to getting 15 PR/blog mentions by February 1, 2009. That date seems to be creeping up on me now.

    Happy New Year! =)

    Stop spending, start writing!

    December 30, 2008

That's my advice to myself, but I can't seem to be able to follow it. I'm stuck in a spending frenzy. Everything's on sale and I just can't help myself.

Did I really need new drinkware from Crate & Barrel? No, but they were $.50 per glass...how could I not?? And did I really need more work clothes? Martin & Osa got me with their $15 button-down shirts! I can't seem to stop.

And now I've had an unforseen expense come up that I just won't be able to avoid. My gorgous new juicer is completely shattered! Yes, I'm very sad...wanna hear how it happened? I posted about it on my blog. Now I'll have to get a new one...I guess I don't HAVE to but I had a whole elaborate plan to get super healthy using natural fruit & vegetable juices.

So can you tell my mind is very far away from anything work related?? I'm being very bad. I've barely been posting to my blogs. Not to mention that I haven't even started on the new jewelry collection, which by the way looks amazing on paper!

    Any of y [...]

    A Magazine Junkie Gone Crazy!

    December 18, 2008

Esculon MagI am obsessed with magazines. Yup, I am a compulsive magazine buyer. I love them...all of them: fashion, business, cooking, crafts. I could go on and on. Do you know what I mean?? I know I can't be alone! I buy different ones each time, with the hopes of learning something new. If I end up loving it, I subscribe! Maybe that's why my mailbox is 85% filled with magazine and catalogs and the rest is junk mail.

So what's a girl with obsessive compulsive magazine disorder and entrepreneurial instincts supposed to do?? Well, I guess I could start my OWN magazine. I might be crazy but I'm really really liking this idea.

Esculon Magazine will feature the topics closest to our hearts...entrepreneurship, marketing, DIY PR, social networking and of course, tons of fun stuff we love to read about when it's time to relax. The idea is to turn this into a full scale publication, to be distributed online only. It will be a lot of work and that's where you ladies come in. I'll need tons of expert [...]
