    Interview for pinkSPARKS

    March 20, 2009

I'm developing a new website for women entrepreneurs. The site will provide information and support for women at different stages in their businesses, including:

    1. women still mustering the courage to make the jump from employee to business owner

    2. women trying to grow their business, find a solid customer/client base and increase sales

    3. and women in established businesses that want to push it to the next level

The site will also focus on not just starting a business but starting THE RIGHT BUSINESS. We believe being a success in life is rooted in doing what you love. So we want to help women discover their true passion and build a successful business around that passion.

We're currently conducting interviews of women entrepreneurs at all stages of success. These interviews will be featured on the pinkSPARKS* homepage and in the enewsletters. If you'd like to be interviewed and featured on pinkSPARKS*, please contact us at: interviews@pinksparks.com .

    Thanks and best wis [...]

It seems every other day I talk to a handful of small business owners that are gung-ho to get their new website designed and online fast. Don’t get me wrong! This is wonderful but sometimes I wonder if the client really knows the core reasons why she should have a website in the first place.

I thought it might be a good idea to do a brief overview of the top 3 core reasons why any small business owner should have a website.

    Core Reason #1
Your website is your 24/7 sales tool.

There’s nothing more heartwarming than knowing your website is working for you even when you’re relaxing at the beach! Your website can be your best, most supportive friend if you let it. It will shout your message to the world; tell us all how fabulous your new products are; educate us about your cause and teach us all about your company - all day, every day. The average entrepreneur couldn’t possibly afford to pay an employee to do the same. This is why you need a website.

    Core Reason #2
    There’s nothing like a [...]

No woman is an island and luckily you don’t have to go it alone in your journey to independent business success. True, you want to keep your company (and it’s profit margins) under your control but partnering up with other talented women to further your business could be the smartest thing you’ve done to date.

    Why partner?
Despite how strong your company may seem, despite how busy you may feel fulfilling orders or meeting with clients, if you're not trying to grow your business in some way, however minor, you're not trying hard enough. Period. To grow your business without devoting a significant amount of capital or time developing new systems and processes, taking on a strategic partner is a no-brainer.

The reason partnering up for success is so effective? It's simple. It's because instantly your partner's network of acquaintances and colleagues becomes your netw [...]

Women entrepreneurs must capitalize on their natural talents to define & achieve business success.

There are many different hats a woman has to wear to push her business to the next level of success. One of these hats is that of new business developer. That job includes the fun process of setting and achieving goals.

Women have the distinct skill of being natural connectors. They talk with friends and colleagues about their kids, their homes, their hair, their husbands. So it makes sense to apply this natural tendency to goal setting for their businesses.

There are 3 phases to setting and achieving your business goals:

deciding what you want to achieve
focusing energy and attention on that desire
allowing that desire to manifest for you

First make a list of your top 3 goals. For example:
I want 3 new clients in the next month
I want to have a new office space by the end of the year
I’ll have 2 new talented and reliable contractors working with me in 2 months

By writing your goals on [...]

    Quick Tips for Twitter

    March 11, 2009

Twitter is a relatively new social network started in 2006. It’s a micro-blogging tool where you post what you’re doing or what you’re working on in small bites. You post just a sentence or two and can include links to related resources. A lot of people use Twitter to post updates about what they had for breakfast or that they’re watching an awards show, generally useless comments. But as a small business owner you can use Twitter in a much more effect and dynamic way. To get the most out of your Twitter account, you need to post about your latest product development and launches, new partnerships you’ve developed, your latest hires or office upgrades, etc. As a website designer, I post about my latest launches and always include a link to my site. It’s an easy way to create links back to your site which makes your site look more relevant to Google search results. You can also use your mobile phone to post. I haven’t tried this yet but it looks convenient and fun. Don’t overlook [...]
